Wealth as a social relationship. Familial Aspects of the (Re)Production of Wealth, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation
About the project
Project funded by Volkswagen Foundation
In this joint project with TU Dortmund, we study wealthy families empirically using qualitative interviews. A distinguishing feature of our work is that we conceptualise wealth not merely as individual economic status, but primarily as a dynamic field of social relations. We are interested in the values and traditions that matter to wealthy families and how these are transmitted across generations. We also investigate how wealthy families perceive society, how they enact responsibility and social engagement, and the social stereotypes associated with wealth and assets.
