Organisation

SOFI receives basic funding from the state of Lower Saxony. Ongoing research is made possible through third-party funding from state and federal ministries, the German Research Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation, the Hans Böckler Foundation, the European Union, as well as associations and companies.

The institute is led by a directorate. The work in the three research areas (Humanising Work and Employment, Public Goods and Infrastructure, Work Experience and Ways of Living), as well as in the two cross-cutting focus themes (Social-Ecological Transformation, Social Cohesion), is supported by a research council, in which the directors consult with the coordinators responsible for each research area and focus theme.

A board of trustees oversees and evaluates the research activities.
