Social cohesion

In a time of significant social transformations, the question of the stability of social cohesion becomes particularly urgent, as distribution conflicts and social forces of disintegration as well as new bonds shape societal developments. In our research on social cohesion, we focus on three points which examine the relationship between the administration, society, and the economy. First, we investigate the forces of disintegration and cohesion in a changing world of work. Second, we explore the organisation of public goods and “social places” as well as their significance for social cohesion. Finally, we examine the tense interaction and conflict between the way different social milieus lead their lives, which can both threaten and strengthen social cohesion. The focus theme of “Social Cohesion” serves as the topical and organisational bridge between SOFI and the Research Institute for Social Cohesion (FGZ).
